We believe that Jesus rose from the dead because of accounts like we have from St Thomas, who firstly questioned whether Jesus was alive. Then he touched the risen Lord proving that Jesus was not a ghost and this led to his beautiful profession of faith, “My Lord and my God.”

We believe because the Apostles believed. It is an act of faith for us to believe in the risen Lord.

Perhaps men who are discerning their vocations can be consoled by the fact that St Thomas didn’t get it right in the beginning. He didn’t believe. But he persevered, he questioned, he came back again and finally he realized that he was wrong and he professed that Jesus is Lord and God and risen from the dead.

Thank you St Thomas for your account of the risen Lord and please pray for those men who are discerning their vocations and for our seminarians, that they will have the courage to persevere and not give up on their calling.

Kind regards and God bless
