Jesus said “Come and follow me”

This year’s retreat for men who are discerning their vocation to the priesthood, will be held at the Tyburn Monastery, which is situated in the beautiful rolling hills of Ngakuru, thirty minutes from Rotorua.

The retreat is a wonderful opportunity to come away from the busyness of our ordinary lives and to spend some time in prayer, in silence, in adoration, attending Mass, praying the Rosary, praying the Divine Office, going to Confession and listening to talks on the priesthood. It is also an opportunity to witness the Tyburn nuns at prayer and work, reminding us that many are called in a special way to serve the Lord. The Tyburn nuns are called to spend time in prayer, just as diocesan priests are called to bring ‘people to Jesus and Jesus to people’, to administer the sacraments, to preach the word of God and especially to be men of prayer.

It takes courage and great faith to begin the process of discerning ones true vocation, the plan that God has for each of us. The priesthood is not for the timid of heart, it is for those who are courageous and have hearts like Our Lord. It is through prayer that we discover what God is calling us to be.

If you believe God is calling you, you are welcome to contact me to have a chat. You are also very welcome to attend this year’s vocations retreat.

We do pray that the ‘Lord of the harvest’ will call many holy men to serve in our diocese as priests of Jesus Christ.
