Thus says the Lord

“As the rain and the snow come down from the heavens and do not return without watering the earth, making it yield and giving growth to provide seed for the sower and bread for eating, so the word that goes from my mouth does not return to me empty, without carrying out my will and succeeding in what it was sent to do.” (Isaiah 55:10-11, Tuesday First Week of Lent.)

The prayerful reading of the word of God is an essential part of prayer, for men discerning their vocations to the Priesthood. When we prayerfully read the Scriptures, God speaks to us and he speaks to our hearts, especially if we are open to his message and this will assist us to do his will. This is our goal to do the will of God and this is what the Scriptures help us to discover.

The word of God is as essential as the rain and snow that is needed to water the earth so the soil may grow food for us to eat. No rain no food.

We don’t have to read volumes of Scripture, we just need to read some Scripture every day. The readings of the day are a superb place to begin. The prayerful reading of the Scriptures of the day or at least the Gospel is also an excellent preparation for attending Mass.
