“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you came to birth I consecrated you..” Jeremiah 1:4-5
God has a plan for each of us set before we were born. He knew our vocation and how we would serve him and each other.
Firstly a calling is God’s invitation and initiative.
Secondly Jeremiah grew into his vocation. It perhaps wasn’t what he had planned for his life.
Thirdly God gives the abilities to fulfill his purpose. Jeremiah was concerned “Ah Lord! I do not know how to speak; I am still young.” God took his concerns away and touched his mouth and gave him his words. God promised Jeremiah protection so he would not be afraid.
We may have many concerns about what God is calling us to be, as we explore the possibility of a vocation to the Priesthood. Jeremiah had many concerns also, but he trusted in the Lord and gave over his will to do the will of God. He was not afraid to ask questions, test the waters and find his way.
