Jesus saw Peter and Andrew and invited them to become fishers of men (Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Matthew 4:12-33). He also saw James and John and invited them to follow him. It would seem that Jesus was watching these men as if it was totally his plan and initiative.  A callling comes from God. As if God is watching you and we need to be ready to respond to his request in a moment’s notice.

The sets of brothers were so willing to do what the Lord requested of them with no excuses. They left everything. They left employment and family and followed Jesus straight away.

Making a decision is always the first step in discerning a vocation. The decision to have a go and begin the process of discerning one’s vocation seriously, of searching and discovering what God wants you to do is essential.

It is very much about stepping out of what is comfortable and trying something that is risky and many like family and friends may not be supportive. It is a courageous thing to discern a vocation and may God bless you in your efforts.
