All Saints and All Souls
The feast days of All Saints and All Souls, are beautiful feast days. All Saints reminds us of our vocation to holiness, to become saints and to take others with us to heaven. All vocations have this call whether it is Marriage, the Priesthood or Religious Life.
Catholics have a wonderful devotion to the Holy Souls. It is an important part of our prayer especially in the Mass. In every Parish I have served I have always prayed for the priests who have worked in the parish who have died.
It is not hard to reflect on their lives. We all need good examples, saints, holy men and women and holy priests to become our models, perhaps even heroes, people who have ‘fought the good fight to the end’ (2 Timothy 4:6-8), people we can look up to and inspire us, by the example of their lives.
Many vocations to the priesthood have been inspired by Parish Priests, their prayerfulness, the reverent way they celebrate the Mass and their generosity in serving the parish tirelessly.
We need good examples to inspire vocations, from married and single people, Religious and Priests. I can think of many Priests in particular who have been an inspiration for me. I give thanks to God for their lives and I remember them in my prayers during the feast of the All Souls.
Kind regards and God bless Father Eamon Kennedy
